Living in a tropical country summer can really be harsh and we need to prepare ourself and make some extra efforts to save our skin from the untoward effects of the sun and humidity. As the weather changes so does the skin care routine and it does so very stringently. The earlier you start, the clearer your skin stays. Few simple steps go a long way. Here are my few simple tips and tricks to avoid that tan and breakouts due to Sun and humidity
Hydrate and hydrate
Hydration is important throughout the year but becomes of utmost importance during the summers . Drink plenty of water, at least 3-4 litres of it. Apart from drinking water you can add coconut water, lime water, fresh juices to your diet to add a little as well as electrolytes.
SPF/ Sunscreen
A sunscreen is a MUST wear during the summers. Do not step out of your house without puting on your sunscreen. Always wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or more. Apply sunscreen not only on your face but also on your neck, hands and feet. Apply appropriate amount of it and reapply every 2-3 hours.
Protective Gear
People who stay outdoor for longer hours need extra safety measures apart from just using a sunscreen. Wear full sleeves clothes, carry umbrellas, wide brim hats and sunglasses when ever going out in sun for a longer duration.
Exfoliate regularly
Summers is the time when the climate is hot and humid and oil glands start to act up resulting in frequent breakouts. Exfoliation removes the build up of the dead skin and opens up the clogged pores. However, an over enthusiastic exfoliation is also not recommended as it can irritate the skin. A mild exfoliation with AHA may be used once or twice weekly as recommended by a Dermatologist will be helpful.
Moisturise
Yes, you got it right. Moisturisers are not only for winters but for all the year round. Moisturisers not only prevent the skin from drones but also serve a greater purpose by repairing the outermost layer of skin ( stratum corneum) and protecting it from the damaging effect of sun and environment. What You can do in summers is wear a light weight moisturiser or water based moisturising lotion rather than thick creams that you use in winters. Also nowadays moisturisers with sunscreen are available so they serve the purpose of 2-in -1.
Make up routine
For all you ladies who love to wear makeup, there is a simple tip – keep it light. Use non-comedogenic makeup products, apply sunscreen before makeup, and avoid layering and layerings of makeup. Most important of all, remove all your makeup before going to bed and moisturise to help skin heal itself.
Add colors to your Diet.
Summers is the time when we find a lot of colourful fruits in the market. Include fresh fruits in your diet, These fruits are rich source of vitamins and minerals much needed by your skin. The anti oxidants presents in these fruits prevent your skin against the damage causes by the free radicals constant produced in today’s polluted environment and also prevent signs of ageing.
