Melasma

Melasma is a condition commonly affecting women but can also affect men. It presents as a brown or tan coloured patch on the bridge of nose, cheeks, forehead and upper lip.

• Pregnancy, sun exposure and consumption of oil are the most commonly associated conditions.
• Treatment of melasma requires a tailor-made approach for each individual depending upon the severity of the pigmentation and previous treatment.
• Treatment includes sunscreen creams, oral drugs, chemical peels and specialized lasers to target the melanin pigment.
