Vitiligo
VITILIGO
Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease characterised by white coloured patches skin and mucus membrane.
The skin gets its normal colour because of compound called as melanin. In patients with vitiligo, body’s defence system attacks its own cells and destroys this compound, “Melanin” and therefore the skin looses its natural colour and turns white. Any part of skin may be affected but the sites which are more prone to trauma are more susceptible.
TREATMENT
Not one treatment plan fits all patients. A customised treatment plan needs to be made for each patient depending upon the body surface are affected and location of patches.
The treatment includes various creams, oral medicines, phototherapy, excimer and surgery grafting.
